Nerdforge - uber nerd girl shows how to make awesome stuff

So, this is sort of a follow-up to my earlier post on Fantasy RPG Armor for women . This is about Martina at  Nerdforge , and all the awesome shit she makes. Specifically, here are her videos where she makes her own armor and then she makes a shield. She also has videos where she makes tomes, wizard staffs, and all kinds of awesome shit. Frankly, I get a kick out of trying to picture her workshop. She's got some serious and expensive power tools :-) Here are more links about them We're the Nerdforge couple Martina & Hansi! instagram & twitter: @thenerdforge discord: discord.io/nerdforge https://www.patreon.com/nerdforge

RocketBook - Handwriting to scan plus OCR made easy

I've got two diff RocketBooks , one is paper (the "microwave to erase") and the other is the Matrix ("wipe with moist cloth"). I love both of them. They make writing, capturing, and erasing super easy. The "Wave" is a paper notebook, and is less likely to smudge, works really well with color ink, and has a nice feel. It has durability problems, though, and the front and back covers are both tearing off. I actually glued them to the first and last writing pages to reinforce the binding, and that's working fine. The ink "shadow" tends to build up over time, and not fully erase, even with vigorous rubbing with the pen eraser or excessive microwaving. Also, it's paper - pressure lines accrue over time, also. Still, it's an awesome book. The "Matrix" is a lot more durable, since it's basically plastic. One weird thing I've noticed is that rubbing it with an eraser seems to damage the surface, and it's building up...

Fantasy RPG Armor for Women

Women in armor .  Well, realistic medieval type of armor, anyway, as opposed to modern body armor, but you can find those, too Model unknown. Image source on Pinterest.

Lex and her #ShowSomeCharacterProject

Lex is a genius. I've talked about her before . I am professional cynic. Humanity is a cesspit, and I have blogs calling people out for being dirt and how they can and should be better . Lex has risen above human nature to bitch and whine. Lex is a rare gem, and I'm crying because she is the "make the world a better place" genius I aspire to be. Bless her heart, bless her genius, I love watching her save the world one generous action at a time :-) #ShowSomeCharacterProject

Drop me a link to your blog. I'm building a list.

Okay, let's do this over again, properly this time. Well, "more properly," anyway. I'll sort out the formatting eventually. So, the point is, drop a link to your blog in the comments section, and I'll update this OP as I get around to it.  "The hardest part for every artist is being found by her audience." - Icarus Anne Riley DURANDUS VON MEISSEN Malcolm's Observations RPG Knights Cross Planes

Artist Igor Crechanyi

ewwww, that's gotta hurt. Oh, unless the humanoid part is merely a lure for prey; then this is seriously eeeeevil! :-) Lolth is a fictional  god from  DnD , and the queen of the Drow Elves. She's also a serious sociopath, psychopath, and pretty much the definition of cruelty and Evil.  She is too calculating to be considered randomly chaotic, but she is definitely a psycho-hosebeast of the highest caliber. ( source ) According to the fine print, the artist is Igor Crechanyi, https://www.artstation.com/igorgrechanyi and he does some  really gorgeous work!

Elisa Mac - Italian Cosplayer

Elisa Mac aka Cap Anneke Jackson , cosplayer and Freelance Graphic Designer from Rome, Italy. ( source )

Karl Stjernberg - RPG Artist on G+

There are a lot of great artists on social media. One is Karl Stjernberg Karl does a lot of RPG  art.  Mostly maps, but also some character sheets.  This one is apparently a Level 1 Kobold Thief. I love the "mind map" free form creativity Karl shows. ( source ) And, Pink! of course :-) (Helllooooo, I'm a girl.  Yes, it turns out that pink is hardwired into us.  We grow out of it... eventually.  Haha.) ( source ) ( source )

Costumer Riki LeCotey - From Comic Fan to Comic Costumer

I've covered cosplayers before , because it's cool, and these people are some really stunning artists.  You've probably seen pictures of Riki "Riddle" LeCotey, even if you never knew who she was. This page is, by the way (and despite the title), not  any kind of "history of Riddle," which you can find all kinds of places.  This page is just a "Hey, now you know!" (Yes, old schoolers, that was deliberate.) Ms LeCotey has been cosplaying since before it was cool - like way back to at least 2008.  (Which is, by the way even longer than   Reigning Queen of Cosplay Jessica Nigri .) ( source: Wikipedia ) And in case your like "Yeah, but if she's that old, is she still relevant? ( source: Facebook ) So, yeah, she is relevant to the cosplay world. She's getting paid requests to appear at places, so there you go. "Okay, fine," you say, "she gets paid to appear at cons. That's still no...

Like Setting A Planet on Fire

It's like watching Galactus  eat a planet.  Source article here . Except it's just one of those things that, apparently, started out as an "experiment to see how many matches it would take to make a perfect sphere." And there you go. Oh, and here's a picture of Galactus, the World Eater. ( image source )

Musical Marble Machines

So, a while ago, I randomly ran across Wintergatan's Marble Machine on YouTube.  Well, it's a fun vid, and epic nerdiness.  Turns out, once you watch one "amazing marble" machine vid, YouTube suggests (no surprise) many more.  It's really wild the creativity and engineering that goes into these things, which means the hundreds of hours of time.  It's engineering and art, all bundled together. As far as I'm concerned, any instrument using marbles is madness ... Some people use of the shelf kits to create crazy "tumbling domino" like runs... ...and some people just do completely custom work... ... and in any case, it's all crazy impressive.

The Small, Beautiful Earth

Text copied from The Decolonial Atlas Seeing the Earth from space is one of the most humbling reminders of the smallness and fragility of our planet, and of the insignificance of humanity. In the words of Carl Sagan, “The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner.” The following images are not actual photographs from space, though  many people  on the internet have mistaken them for real photos from NASA. They were actually created by graphic artist  Anton Balazh  (Антон Балаж) from St. Petersburg, Russia. The images achieve their beautiful realism by compounding and altering real satellite images from NASA’s Visible Earth catalog...

Alternate History Designs & Photography

model is Genevieve , who was just at the Seattle Steamposium  (and I've just made a note on my calendar for next year, so i don't miss it again... grrrr ) Her FB page, Alternate History Designs & Photography And I made a Mighty Protectors character, using this image, which is how I found out about her, and so now you know about: My character ; Mighty Protectors ; Seattle Steamposium Genevieve at Seattle Steamposium Alternate History Designs & Photography

"I Am" - A Movie About Humanity

In his movie, I Am , Tom Shadyac calls out unbridled greed as a genuine mental illness, and takes us all to task for tolerating letting the mentally ill run and control the nation, and world. Director Tom Shadyac speaks with intellectual and spiritual leaders about what's wrong with our world and how we can improve both it and the way we live in it. It's a damn good movie.

Dungeon Cultist Coffee Mug

Dungeon Cultist Mug by Nate McD  (Zazzle) or Nate McD (G+) Because, you know, we make a fuss about advertising our lives on our coffee mugs - let's advertise we love dungeon crawling on the weekends, with friends.  I so need at least one of these in my house. It would  make a good birthday gift for your gamer, too.  Or a Christmas party "white elephant" gift.  Hell, I just think it's adorable :-) "Dungeon Cultist" - it could be like the "secret dress-up" used to identify your fellow cultists.  Only those "in the know," understand the meaning, and it's an advert to others of the club that you're a gamer, and ready to roll :-)

Superheros on Live Stage - Soon I Will Be Invincible

"Soon I Will Be Invincible" - hadn't heard of it until Heinz Kreienbaum   mentioned it one day .  Apparently, it started life as a novel .  I so need to get a copy and read it. Christina Hall as Fatale And then someone did a live stage production of it .  That's pretty cool. I hope it smashed box office records, and all that.

Elven Tower

Derek Ruiz is the mad genius behind ElvenTower.com .  He makes maps, and has a Patreon account . Good maps are hard to find.  This is beautiful, easy to use, and totally looks like fun.

Alyson Tabbitha - Stunning Brilliant Cosplayer

Is it wrong that I'm turned on by Alyson's incredible skill level and passion for cosplay? I love cosplay. I've dabbled a bit, but I'm a rank amateur. Mostly, I'm a gamer by day, and dabble with a bit of convention cosplay in the evenings when it's dark, I've had a drink or two, and no one really cares, anyway. (And yah, I've still got a male friend not far away, because .) Anyway, ran across  Alyison Tabitha  when looking for Final Fantasy cosplay, just because. Check out her incredible work at her gallery. And gender-bending!  And she nails Jack Sparrow's body language! Freaky  Wow !

I can play with the Pinkest Pink, because I'm special

As a general rule, I'm a fan of intellectual property rights ,  so that inventors and creators can be sure to get fair compensation for their works, but I'm not a fan of locking up the IP, making it impossible for people to use. The idea that an artist got "an exclusive right" to "the blackest black" is just absurd.  I have to imagine it was as much publicity stunt by the creators of Vantablack as it was anything else. I applaud Stuart Semple for thumbing his nose back the Vantablack people by saying " your pet artist can't have my pinkest pink ." The root IP lockup is very silly, so the resultant "IP war" is absolutely silly. Plus, it's kind of a gorgeous shade of pink.  For a few bucks, I might buy myself some and see if I can finger paint with it :-) Tangentially, here is a really good primer on Intellectual Property . And finally, yeah, being allowed to play with the Pinkest Pink doesn't exactly make m...
